Today, human mobility throughout the world is remarkable. We are talking about those people who decide to start a new life elsewhere, or have job offers in other cities or countries different from their origin. For expatriates in Barcelona there are options that we take care to expose.

Job opportunities if you want to come to Barcelona for work

It is a very old city that prospered on the shores of the Mediterranean, with Mount Taber, today's Plaça Sant Jaume, being the origin of the town centre. There are numerous vestiges of the Roman presence and of the later settlers -Visigoths, Muslims, Franks- that give an account of the important historical past of that county, which became part of the Kingdom of Aragon in 1137.

What we want to say is that Barcelona has a lot of historyThe city is a very interesting tourist destination, which makes it the second most important one, surpassed only by Madrid. It is also the second most populated city in Spain, also after Madrid (counting the metropolitan area, there are more than 5 million people).

In addition to its history, Barcelona has been one of the main industrial cities in Spain, with the greatest economic strength. All this makes it a destination for those who want to train professionally or get a job.

The tourism and technology sectors are where job offers predominate, although they can also be found in other areas, and the need for engineers (in any of their professional areas), marketers, teachers, sales staff, communication, finance, and a host of other sectors can be seen.

Expat jobs in Barcelona

Obviously, if you have training related to the job you are looking for, you will have a much better chance of finding the position you want. You should bear in mind that there are requirements you must meet if you want to come to Barcelona for work.

First of all, if you are not a Spanish citizen, but you are a member of the European Union, or you are in the Shengen zone, you will only need your ID to stay in Spain for more than 90 days.

If you are from another non-EU country, you will need a visa issued by the Spanish government. There are two types, the student and the work visa. In this case, the work visa is the one you're interested in.

If you do not yet have a job in Barcelona, you can start by get a residence permit and then you can send your documents to certain companies that select personnel for this city. Once you have the job, your employer in Spain will have to make an application to a Ministry of Labour office to process the work permit, a document that you will then have to present to the Spanish consulate in your country.

Obviously, all your personal documents must be valid -passport, criminal record, updated ID photos, for example-, and once you are approved to work, you will have to travel to our country to make the relevant arrangements for your work record.

These efforts can be facilitated by specially created companies that help expats in Barcelona to locate themselves, find accommodation, find out about the most important things in the city, look for schools -if that is the case-, and any other service that a person or family moving to Barcelona may need.
